For me, the clay process is therapeutic, mesmerizing and playful. Many of my sculptures are gateways, mysteriously leading to the inner psyche, dreams or memories. My narrative sculptures embody my own mythology which explores well-being, womanhood and passages through the use of irony, metaphor and humor to create the unexpected.

The materials used in my mosaic pieces incorporate handmade shards of ceramic, handblown glass, and mirror. Mosaics, according to Issac Luria, represent shards which are sparks of holiness from the moment of creation. When fragments are united in a new order, balance is restored from chaos and “tikun,” or healing the world, begins.

In my work, meanings are sometimes intentionally elusive or ambiguous. I am inspired by the shape, texture and color of found and handmade shards. From once beautiful objects, disparate elements, multiple patterns and colors re-combine to create new whole images and new forms of harmony.

I have worked in clay since 1972 and have been influenced by my sojourn in Samoa, South Asia, India and the Mid-east. Currently I work in my studio in Brookline, MA. My original ceramic shard mosaics may be commissioned for site specific installation.
